A Sample Type Pic from the USNM
The image below is a sample of one of the types we digitally photographed at the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
Type specimens are shot on black velvet, and the interior of one valve and the exterior of the other are shot separately. The museum label is generally included, as is a cm scale. The original jpegs are rendered in Corel PhotoPaint to remove the background and turn the label and shells into separate layers.
